Position Summary
The Fleet Manager is responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial management of IQ Fiber’s growing vehicle fleet, currently exceeding 200 vehicles across 5 states and expanding rapidly. This role ensures fleet assets are deployed efficiently, operated safely, maintained proactively, and governed in compliance with company policies and state regulations.

The Fleet Manager owns fleet lifecycle management end-to-end, including vehicle acquisition, assignment, maintenance, compliance, reporting, and disposition. This individual must also support new market launches and scale standardized fleet processes as the company grows.
This role requires strong operational leadership, data-driven decision-making, vendor management expertise, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with Field Operations, HR, Finance, Safety, and Market Launch teams.

Key Responsibilities
Fleet Strategy & Governance

  • Own and administer all fleet policies, procedures, and standards across markets.
  • Establish scalable fleet governance models that support rapid geographic expansion.
  • Ensure consistent application of vehicle usage, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Serve as the primary fleet subject-matter expert for leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Continuously evaluate fleet strategy (owned vs. leased, vehicle classes, utilization models).
Fleet Operations & Lifecycle Management
  • Oversee daily fleet operations for 200+ vehicles across multiple states.
  • Manage vehicle lifecycle activities including:
    • Vehicle acquisition and upfitting
    • Assignment and reassignment
    • Preventive maintenance and repairs
    • Vehicle wraps and branding compliance
    • Decommissioning, resale, or return
  • Ensure timely pickup, delivery, and deployment of vehicles to meet operational schedules.
  • Maintain accurate and auditable vehicle records including leases, registrations, plates, and service history.
Maintenance, Safety & Compliance
  • Develop and enforce a preventive maintenance program to maximize uptime and asset lifespan.
  • Monitor and schedule routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  • Conduct regular fleet audits to ensure:
    • Vehicle condition standards are met
    • Safety requirements are followed
    • Proper usage and compliance with policy
  • Oversee fleet safety programs, including:
    • Driver eligibility and onboarding requirements
    • Incident reporting and investigation
    • Emergency response coordination for fleet-related incidents
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, registrations, specialty tags, toll programs, and insurance requirements.
Fuel, Telematics & Data Analytics
  • Manage fuel programs and fuel efficiency initiatives.
  • Analyze fuel usage, vehicle utilization, idle time, and maintenance data to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Own telematics platforms (e.g., Geotab or similar), including:
    • Reporting and dashboards
    • Driver behavior monitoring
    • Utilization and optimization analysis
  • Provide regular fleet performance reports and recommendations to leadership.
Vendor & Partner Management
  • Source, negotiate, and manage vendors for:
    • Vehicle leasing or purchasing
    • Maintenance and repair services
    • Wrap and upfitting vendors
    • Fuel and telematics providers
  • Monitor vendor performance against SLAs, cost targets, and service quality expectations.
  • Coordinate with vendors to support new market launches and surge capacity needs.
Financial Management & Cost Control
  • Develop and manage the annual fleet operating budget.
  • Track and control fleet-related expenses including maintenance, fuel, leases, and repairs.
  • Review and approve fleet-related invoices and ensure accurate cost allocation.
  • Identify and implement cost-reduction initiatives without compromising safety or service quality.
Driver Management & Enablement
  • Maintain and oversee the fleet driver roster.
  • Ensure drivers are properly onboarded, trained, and informed of fleet policies.
  • Assign vehicles based on role, geography, and operational needs.
  • Conduct vehicle activity checks and compliance reviews, providing reports and recommendations to leadership.
Market Expansion & Launch Support
  • Partner with HR, Finance, New Market Development, Project Management, and Operations teams to support new market entries.
  • Forecast vehicle needs for new markets and expansion phases.
  • Coordinate rapid fleet deployment aligned with launch timelines.
  • Develop standardized fleet launch playbooks and checklists for scalability.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Develop KPIs and dashboards to track fleet performance.
  • Provide executive-ready reporting on utilization, cost, safety, and compliance.
  • Identify process improvements and automation opportunities.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across fleet operations.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive fleet management experience, preferably in telecommunications, utilities, construction, or field-service environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large, multi-state fleets.
  • Experience scaling fleet operations in high-growth environments strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of fleet operations, vehicle lifecycle management, and compliance.
  • Proficiency with fleet management and telematics platforms (e.g., Geotab, Smartsheet, or similar).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, especially Excel for reporting and analysis.
  • Strong financial acumen with budgeting and cost control experience.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across regions and time zones.
  • Data-driven, proactive, and solutions-oriented mindset
