Position Summary:
The Access Network Engineer is responsible for helping IQ Fiber deliver the best possible Broadband Internet service to customers in our growing service areas. The Access Network Engineer assists in the design and configuration of access networks, Wi-Fi systems, and core networks. IQ Fiber Access Network Engineers work with various carrier-class network equipment, switches, routers, OLTs, servers, Wi-Fi devices, and other gear. The successful candidate will support other team members and customers with installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and training. The position is a full-time position that also requires participation in an after-hours on-call support program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot IQ Fiber’s Access Networks.
  • Support field engineers in the deployment and expansion of IQ Fiber’s Access Network.
  • Support IQ Fiber Broadband Network Engineers with design, configuration, enhancement, and troubleshooting of IQ Fiber’s Core Networks.
  • Appropriately escalate critical network conditions to Technical Operations and Outside Plant staff.
  • Configure, manage, and optimize network monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Make recommendations for improving the performance and operation of the IQ Fiber network based on the analysis of data.
  • Create and administer detailed, technical MOPs (Methods of Procedure) to facilitate maintenance and upgrades of IQ Fiber’s Access Network.
  • Develop and optimize procedures for deploying customer LAN and Wi-Fi networks.
  • Provide support to IQ Fiber’s NOC and Technical Support personnel on advanced Access Network related escalations
  • Develop and optimize processes and procedures for diagnosing and troubleshooting IQ Fiber customer LAN and Wi-Fi issues.
  • Interface with Access Equipment Vendors to manage OLT and CPE hardware models and firmware versions.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain Acceptance Testing Procedures for Access Equipment hardware, software, and integrations.
  • Assist in the configuration and support of public Wi-Fi network services.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation with a team of Network Engineers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a network engineer role
  • Experience working with fiber optics, GPON, XGS-PON, 25G PON, 50G PON
  • Deep experience working with CPEs and Wi-Fi equipment
  • Deep experience working with XGS-PON deployments
  • Experience with the Juniper MX and QFX product lines
  • Experience with Nokia PON solutions (Lightspan OLTs) required or strongly preferred
  • Experience with Nokia Altiplano Access Controller for OLT management, subscriber/service provisioning, and automation is highly preferred.
  • Experience with Nokia 7750 SR-series routers a strong plus
  • Minimum three years experience in telecommunications or networking preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with DHCP, VLANs, Static and Dynamic Routing Protocols, VPNs, g8032
  • Ability to utilize considerable independent judgment, discretion, and initiative in carrying out day-to-day responsibilities
  • Basic knowledge of telecommunications systems and operations
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical requirements, methods of procedures, and product data sheets
  • Ability to use inductive reasoning techniques to effectively troubleshoot systems problems
  • Demonstrated cultural competence to effectively interact, work, and develop meaningful relationships with people of diverse identities, perspectives, and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong learning orientation. Leverages all resources and is creative in ways of learning for self to continue adapting to changing issues and trends
  • A desire and ability to understand the diverse needs of internal and external customers and to create experiences and deliver services that exceed their expectations
  • A desire and ability to utilize digital tools for organizational information, individual, and teamwork
  • Other networking related credentials a plus (i.e. (JNCIA, JNCIS-SP, JNCIP-SP, JNCIE-SP, NRS I, NRS II, SRA, CCNP, CCIE, Network+)
